Summer Drive To Colorado

Blogging is a lot more work than I thought it would be when I started it at the beginning of the year.  My last post was in May at the end of migration which is where I would usually take a break from birding until the weather cooled down a bit and the other side of migration began around the end of August.  The past couple of years however, I've gotten into county birding, which turns all the boring common birds into sought after exciting birds.  Yes, I've gotten excited to see a pigeon in a county where I would have normally not even given it a second glance.

I currently have several birding goals to keep things interesting

1. Bird every county in Texas - after our summer drive to Colorado I got 134 out of  254.

2. See how many counties I can get 100 species in - currently at 11

3. See how many counties I can get 200 species in - currently at 5

4. Texas Life Birds - still at 429 with last edition of Hudsonian Godwit added in early May.

5. USA Life Birds - which after a short summer vacay in Colorado I got a grand total of 1 new bird.
Western Bluebird.  for Life Bird 444.

I was surprised to see a Mississippi kite in just about every county in Texas that we drove through including this one in Hardeman County.
